2025 Candidates for Board of Directors

Northern Plains Electric Cooperative (NPEC) had an open call for three open seats on the board of directors as the current seat holder’s terms were coming to an end. The cooperative received three petitions, one per district, by the following candidates. NPEC bylaws state that if petitions have been properly received for each district there will be no nominations from the floor. The cooperative received three qualified petitions by the following candidates. Since the election is uncontested, no election will take place at the meeting nor will ballots be mailed to the membership.

District 1, Mark Brehm

Mark Brehm

District 1 Candidate

Incumbent, Mark Brehm has been a member of NPEC for over 40 years. He resides in Cando with his wife, Darla, and together they own and operate D&M Electric Motor and Supply. Together they have four children and seven grandchildren. He has been on the NPEC board of directors since 2007 and serves on Central Power Electric Cooperative’s board of directors as President. Brehm also serves on the Cando Economic Development board, Cando Fire Department and the Cando Foundation board. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing and golfing. As a candidate, Brehm says, “I will continue to guide community development, help keep rates affordable, and our power reliable and safe.”

District 2, David Teigen

David Teigen

District 2 Candidate

Incumbent, David Teigen was first elected to the NPEC board directors in 2009 and serves as assistant secretary/treasurer. As a farmer and resident of rural Rugby, Teigen has been a NPEC member for over 22 years. He and his wife, Jen, focus on family time and keep busy supporting their four children’s activities. In his spare time, Teigen volunteers as an air rifle instructor for a local 4H chapter as well as a Sunday school teacher at his local church. He is a board member of the Pierce County Farmers Union and a supervisor for his township. As a candidate, Teigen says, “good electric service is one of the most basic inputs that enables people to improve their quality of life.  I enjoy being part of the conversation on how the cooperative can position itself to best serve the members now and into the future.”

District 3, Jacob Ryun

Jacob Ryun

District 3 Candidate

Candidate, Jacob Ryun of Woodworth has been a NPEC member for 13 years in addition to being on other cooperative lines for over twenty years.  He is retired from the United States Air Force (USAF) and works as a cattle rancher and part-timer welder. He loves anything outdoors which includes hunting and dirt bike racing. He has served as a past archery coach for the Medina school and is currently the clerk/treasurer for his township and a council member on his church board. He and his wife Kristine stay busy with family activities that involve their four children. As a candidate, Jacob says, “following retirement after 24 years in the USAF, I am focusing my time on my family and becoming more involved in my community. While my professional background is in Information Technology, my personal life has always been in rural, agricultural communities.  North Dakota has been our home since 2009; this is a wonderful place to live and NPEC makes it possible for people and families like ours to thrive.  I feel that serving as a regional director for the board would align well with my knowledge, skills, and abilities.”
